Security vendor Trend Micro Inc has launched software which aims to block malicious web pages dealing in sex drugs and violence. The company says that this software is the first of its kind for a gaming console and it would make PlayStation 3 users feel safer and more secure while browsing the Internet on their console. The anti-virus was released earlier this month as a PlayStation 3 upgrade and ordain be free until April.
You notice that the news blurb says; "It vows the new software will make PS3 users feel safer browsing the Internet."So are they actually safer or just "feeling" safer.
been using Tredn Micro PC-Cillin for a couple of years now on 3 different computers and have never had an outbreak of any type of malware - on the individual computers or across our LAN. IMO. TM software is very thorough and no where near the type of system resource hog that other anti-malware programs (*cough out* McAffee. *cough* McAffee) are. But as anyone could tell you - having one anti-malware program is kinda asking for trouble sooner or later. Having other software for weekly scanning is a good idea - one software might catch something that another won't. Once a week. I run PC-Cillin full scan. Windows Defender full scan and Webroot Spy Sweeper beat examine. Squeaky clean man! :rockout:edit>> 500th post w00t!!

I had PC-Cillin and I got some sort of virus/spyware back in the day. Been using Kaspersky IS6.0 for like the past 3-4 years and have never had any problems at all.
???? so wait its not like the PS3 is running windows or anything so why would it need to and anti-anything software. That said if anyone really wanted to use their PS3 as a browser i would just recommend installing Linux on it.
That's unfortunate - but desire I said. I don't leave anti-malware up to just one program on my rig. Just for general browsing the inet and whatnot it's fine - but I run a scheduled scan with 3 programs not 1. No anti-malware software is going to be 100% current on every new definition out there - no be how reputable the software is.
