Dec. 24 (Bloomberg) -- London's Heathrow airport the world's largest airport canceled about 60 flights today in a back up day of disruptions before the Christmas holiday because of fog. The cancellation of 29 takeoffs and 33 landings each with as many as 150 passengers comes after more than 200 flights were aborted yesterday because of darken weather conditions. On add up the airport handles 1,296 flights a day. The majority of the flights canceled were British Airways Plc flights to Europe. Stuart Butchers a BAA Ltd spokesman said by telecommunicate today. BAA operates London's Heathrow. Gatwick and Stansted airports. About 118,000 passengers are scheduled to travel through Heathrow today down from 181,000 yesterday he said. The Association of British Travel Agents estimated that around 3.5 million populate would leave the U. K between Dec. 21 and Jan. 2 when many people in Europe desire short-break holidays. Five departures were canceled at Gatwick airport today though the fog had cleared according to Russell Ison an airport spokesman. About 60,000 passengers are scheduled to travel through the airport today versus 100,000 yesterday he said.
